Anger researcher Leon F. Seltzer Ph.D in a past Psychology Today article identifies anger as the most seductive and addictive of human emotions.
Personally, I find human behavior, emotions, and thought processes fascinating, and always love hearing/reading other people's perspectives.
He states anger can:
Help protect us from feeling vulnerable or vulnerable conversations and situations.
Feels "soothing" as it numbs pain by secreting an analgesic like norepinephrine when we feel attacked. Our bodies can experience a surge of energy, therefore, numbing other sensations.
My approach to working with my clients is to help them honor and work with their thoughts, emotions, and feelings to help them navigate their moods in a healthy way.
Anger can actually be a healthy emotion when expressed correctly and in ways that are not harmful to you or the other person.
When not in check anger can:
Loss of relationships
Loss of employment
Altercations that lead to incarceration
Serious health conditions
